The moments that brought us here.
Our Meet Cute Adlyn has always loved watching movies especially Rom-Com movies and little did she know she would be the one to start writing her story. Adlyn had recently transferred to Purdue after a difficult stretch through COVID and her decision to hang up her cleats in Boston. Looking for a fresh start, new friendships, and a place to feel like in a team atmosphere, she joined Alpha Gamma Delta. Trey was already a year into school and had decided it was probably time to expand his social circle beyond class, work, and watching sports. Mostly, he wanted more people to go to games with. So, he accepted a bid from Sigma Pi. As luck would have it, Alpha Gamma Delta and Sigma Pi were paired as football buddies that year, which meant the two groups ended up at the same pregame tailgate. And somehow, Adlyn and Trey did not notice each other at all. I mean at all. But this was an important milestone in Adlyn’s college life as she had never been to a football game. So as her friends decided to leave during halftime something urged her to stay and one of her closest friends Cassidy was also going to stay. Right next to Cassidy were two members of the Sigma Pi Fraternity one of which Adlyn knew and the other was a new character. And in true Adlyn fashion she proceeds to say eight words that would change her life forever: “Hello my name is Adlyn. What’s your name?” But in a typical Rom-Com it is typical that first impressions were not the greatest at first. In true Trey fashion he was very focused on the game and only saw Adlyn as a distraction to his true passion of watching football. While Adlyn thought he was rude.(I think no more is needed to be said) Eventually they started talking, and the conversation turned to sports, working out, and staying active. That was when Trey had a very practical realization, why don’t they both work out together. They then exchanged phone numbers and as the gentleman he is he walked both Adlyn & her friend back home. Once back at the sorority house Trey had forgotten Adlyn’s name but Adlyn could not just let him off the hook, so she preceded to state, “That’s okay Trey James Rosenfeldt, from St. Charles, IL studying Computer Science” Trey proceeded to roll down the hill in shame(yes he really rolled down the driveway) The next morning she received a text from Trey stating, “Good Morning, Adlyn Aliette Hernandez, from Miami, FL, studying Business Analytics”

Apparently, nothing was going to go smoothly. The first time we were supposed to hang out, Adlyn’s phone somehow “fell” off her bed during the night, which meant her alarm never woke her up. Trey, meanwhile, waited at the CoRec at Purdue for about 30 minutes, wondering whether this new workout-buddy situation had ended before it even started. Eventually, Adlyn showed up. And, in what would become an important relationship tradition, she made up for it with Cane’s. Trey and Adlyn remained friends for about a month. Completely oblivious, Adlyn had no idea that Trey had feelings for her. Eventually, during one of their nightly walks, Trey finally asked her out. Adlyn was caught completely off guard. She said maybe, to Adlyn it was a no but to Trey it was a chance! For their first real date, Trey planned to drive them to dinner. Unfortunately, his car had other ideas. The battery was dead. So, they walked. They made their way across the river to Bru Burger, where Trey had actually made a reservation, and then went axe throwing afterward. To this day, Trey says he won. Adlyn says she won. There is no surviving evidence that can be trusted. Within only a few months, they felt as though they had known each other for a lifetime. They even went on a trip with Adlyn’s family, thanks to her father, Rick Hernandez, who suggested that Trey come along. It also marked the beginning of Trey’s love for cruises. A few months into the relationship, Trey finally confessed three important words to her: “I love you.” And, as seemed to happen in every important moment, Adlyn responded: “No, you don’t! And it’s too soon!” A couple of weeks later, however, she found herself professing those same three words back to Trey. Not exactly the movie version. But somewhere between missed alarms, dead car batteries, Cane’s apologies, long walks, workouts, arguments over axe throwing, family trips, and one slightly rejected declaration of love, they stopped being two people who simply happened to spend time together. They became us.
As their relationship grew, so did the life they were building together. Adlyn and Trey were both deeply involved in their sorority and fraternity, taking on leadership positions and making the most of their years at Purdue. At one point, Trey entered the Alpha Gamma Delta Sweetheart competition, a philanthropy event that raised money to fight hunger. Adlyn quickly became part of the effort, helping Trey and his fraternity brothers prepare for the competition. Her most ambitious task was choreographing a dance routine for a group of fraternity brothers who, for the most part, had two left feet. Somehow, they pulled it off. Trey won the public vote and finished in second place overall. More importantly, the experience became another example of how Adlyn and Trey supported each other, even when that support involved teaching an entire fraternity how to dance. Between classes, leadership responsibilities, and campus life, they continued their studies at Purdue while making frequent trips to Chicago. With Trey’s parents, they explored the city and enjoyed countless adventures, including bar crawls organized through Rick Rosenfeldt’s profession, neighborhood events, festivals, and Lollapalooza. And Chicago was only the beginning. Together—and often alongside their friends and families—Adlyn and Trey traveled throughout the United States and beyond. Their adventures took them to the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, Las Vegas, Miami, Nashville, Kansas City, and many other places along the way. The destinations changed, but the experience remained the same: every trip gave them another memory, another story, and another reason to look forward to wherever life might take them next. Of course, not every part of their relationship was spent side by side. There were periods when distance separated them, including Trey’s time in Tanzania and the summer they both accepted internships—Trey in Indiana and Adlyn in the Chicago area. Those seasons were not always easy. Like every relationship, theirs experienced both wonderful highs and difficult lows. Through it all, the love and encouragement of their families and friends helped them continue moving forward. No matter the distance, they continued to support one another, celebrate each other’s accomplishments, and grow individually without growing apart. Before long, Adlyn and Trey graduated from Purdue and began careers in similar fields, both working as software product managers. Their new jobs, however, once again placed them in different locations. After months of long drives, careful planning, and more than a few conversations with Adlyn’s employer, they were finally able to make the decision they had been waiting for: They were going to live together. Just before leaving for Europe, they packed up all of Adlyn’s belongings and officially moved her into their new home. It was a major milestone—one that marked the end of living apart and the beginning of building their everyday life together. There was barely enough time to unpack before they left for their long-awaited European adventure. They thought they were celebrating one exciting new chapter. Adlyn had no idea that another was about to begin.
By the time we traveled to Italy, Adlyn believed she was preparing for an unforgettable European vacation with her family, followed by a Royal Caribbean cruise. Trey, however, was preparing for something much bigger. With the help of his parents, Adlyn’s parents, and her sister, he disguised the proposal as one of several couples’ excursions that Adlyn’s father had planned for the trip. Of course, Adlyn did not make this easy. She is a relentless detective, notices every small detail, and can immediately tell when something feels even slightly suspicious. But whenever there was a possible slipup, Trey had it covered to a T—complete with fake invoices, confirmation emails, and enough carefully constructed evidence to make the entire excursion seem completely real. On the morning of the proposal, they got ready while Adlyn remained unaware of what was about to happen. Before leaving, she asked Trey to bring a jacket in case she became cold. Trey brilliantly decided that the jacket would be the perfect place to hide the ring. It was not. Naturally, Adlyn eventually asked for the jacket. Within seconds, what should have been a simple exchange turned into a tug-of-war. By the end of it, Adlyn was cold and annoyed, while Trey was nervous, laughing, and doing everything possible to keep her away from the ring hidden inside. Somehow, the secret survived. Then, in front of the Colosseum—surrounded by centuries of history in one of the most beautiful cities in the world—Trey surprised Adlyn by getting down on one knee. For someone who had always loved romantic movies, Adlyn suddenly found herself standing in the middle of a scene that felt almost too perfect to be real. This time, there were no missed alarms. There was no dead car battery. And, thankfully, no one rejected the declaration of love. However, Adlyn is still Adlyn, Instead of immediately saying yes, she mostly nodded. In fact, there may be more uses of the word “no” than “yes” in the proposal video. But a win is a win. The surprises were not finished. After the proposal, Adlyn and Trey went back to celebrate with her family, and her parents revealed a secret of their own: Trey’s parents had traveled all the way to Italy to surprise them and share in the moment. Having both families there transformed an already unforgettable day into something even more meaningful. It was not only the beginning of their engagement, but also the beginning of two families coming together as one. From meeting unexpectedly at a Purdue football game to standing together in front of the Colosseum, their story has taken them farther than either of them could have imagined. Now, we cannot wait to stand before God, beside the sea, and surrounded by the people we love most as we promise forever to one another. We are not only celebrating the beginning of our marriage, but every adventure that brought us here—and all the unforgettable memories still waiting to be made with each of you. So, join us in Miami on April 25, 2027, as our next chapter begins. Forever starts here.
